Obituary

Freddie L. Parker, 80, of Greenville, WV passed away Tuesday December 3, 2019 at Heritage Hall in Rich Creek, VA. Born January 31,1939, he was a son of the late O.R. and Julia Oxley Parker.
After high school Freddie attended Concord College where he played basketball and baseball and graduated with a Master's in Education. He would retire in 1998 from the Monroe County School system, where he was a teacher and coach. Mr. Parker was known for his tough discipline but was also thought very fondly of by his many students. He served as 4-H Extension Agent in Monroe County and was an active farmer. He served two terms in the West Virginia Senate from 1982 to 1990 where he represented the 10th district. He also owned and operated Monroe Construction Company for a period of time. An avid fisherman and Cincinnati Red fan, he would coach Little League sports and loved to teach younger kids about the game. He had gotten back in to coaching this past year, coaching his grandsons, and a great-grandson in baseball. He took great pleasure in helping each kid on his team. His pride and joy throughout life always remained his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was very quick to tell everyone about his many, many grandkids.
In addition to his parents, Freddie was preceded in death by his first wife, Judy Parker, one daughter Mary Beth Mustain, sister Mary Smith and infant brother and sister Robert and Joyce Parker.
Freddie is survived by two sons Dr. Jeff Parker (Martha) of Cincinnati, OH, Robert Parker of Greenville, WV, one daughter Jill Preston of Union, WV, three sisters Delma Welder (Franklin) of Kingsport, TN, Gatha Meadows (Bill) of Youngstown, OH, Teresa Johnson (Mason) of Greenville.
His pride and joy, 15 Grandchildren Jake and Bennett Parker, Mac, Ben (Andrea), Sara Preston, Judy Ann Meadows (Andy), Leah Hylton (Jason), Clara Wimmer (Kipp), Amy Bills (Brian), John Mustain(Brooklynn), Megan Beth Mustain(Bryce Dickerson), Fredrick Brock Parker, Brycen Parker, Brogan Parker, and Bronson Parker. He had 18 Great-Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and a lifetime of very dear friends.
Memorial Services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday December 8, 2019 at the Greenville United Methodist Church with Rev. Carl Mouser officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery. Family will receive friends from 1PM until time of service at the church. To continue his love for the children of Monroe County, in particular his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews who play there, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider making donations of sympathy to the Sports of Monroe Foundation c/o Steve Newberry at 280 Walnut Ridge Road Peterstown, WV 24963.

To the family, my heartfelt condolences for your loss. Please find comfort in the knowledge that soon God will wipe out every tear from our eyes, and “death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things (will) have passed away.”(Rev. 21:3,4) May this promise give you comfort now and a real hope for the future. My deepest sympathies.
