Obituary for James Wadsworth

James Leo Wadsworth, 96 of Rich Creek Valley Road Peterstown, WV passed away Monday February 25, 2019 at Heritage Hall in Rich Creek, VA. Born in Alamo, Lincoln County, Nevada on May 21,1922 he was the son of the late James and Lois Stewart Wadsworth. His great grandparents on each side were pioneer settlers of Utah and Nevada.
James married Kathleen Vickers Wadsworth of West Virginia in 1951. They had two children James Vickers of Panaca, NV and Felicia Kathlenn of Mesa, AZ. and 4 Grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother and sister in law Jack and Ruth Vickers of Peterstown. Many nieces and nephews.
He attended both grade school and high school in Panaca, NV and graduated from Brigham Young University with an A.B. in Political Science, In 1952 he received a Ju-Doctorate from George Washington University in Washington DC.
At the start of his junior year at BYU September 1942, he volunteered for cadet training in the USAF and was called to active duty in December of that year. In March 1943 he was rated a pilot and entered training for overseas duty. He flew 31 night instrusion missions in the Mediterranean and Italian Theatres. On release from active duty in September 1945, he was assistant operations officer and twin engine test pilot 47thh Bomb Group.
In 1948 he was elected to the Nevada State Assembly and served in the 1949 Legislature. C. Co. Bastian and he was elected the most effective county contingent for that session. He served as District Attorney for Esmeralda and Lincoln Counties in Nevada, and two terms as President of the North Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce.
While studying for a law degree in Washington, James was Administrative Assistant to the Director, Office of Airports, and CAA. Among his duties hwas a liaison from the CAA to the Office of the Solicitor, Department of Labor and to the United States Congress.
in 1970 he formed a law office to become chief counsel for all of Howard R. Hughes interest in Nevada. He became Mr. Hughes personal attorney and General Manager to the Landmark Hotel and Casino, political officer for the Hughes interest and a general lobbyist to various government offices and legislatures.
Among his awards and honors that he received Commodore in the US Yact Club, Admiral in the Texas Navy, Certificate for Civic Advancement by Henderson Chamber of Commerce, Certificate for the Advancement of International Air Travel by the Federal Government of the Republic of Mexico, Who's Who that included In American Law, In American Politics and Who' Who in the World.
Funeral services was held 11:00 AM on Thursday February 28, 2019 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Peterstown with Elder Darrell Mann officiating. Burial with flag presentation to his wife by the West Virginia Army Honor Guard followed at Bradley Cemetery in Lindside.
